Area Codes (NPA)

North American area codes are undergoing constant changes and additions, owing to the spectacular growth of demand for numbers in the last decade or two -- primarily because of mobile and fax.

All North American numbers use the country code "1". Although commonly associated just with the United States, this country code applies also to Canada and the Caribbean islands -- as well as to the US territories in the Pacific.

We've compiled this database so you can correlate codes with the geographic areas: countries, provinces and states. Ordinarily, you would enter search criteria in just one of the fields, leaving all the others blank. For example, if you wanted to find out what state, province or country a particular area code applied to, you would just enter the three-digit number in the "Area Code" field. If you had several codes you were curious about, you could look them up all at once by entering them together, separated by commas.

If you wondered what area codes had been applied to a particular state or province, you could just select it from the list and run your search, and the same would apply for countries. If you entered a value in both the Area Code box and the State or Country box, you would only get search results for area codes that were assigned to those states or countries. Since the intended use for this database is to find what associations exist between codes and geographic areas, it's hard to imagine what useful purpose it could serve for you to enter criteria in more than one box, but you're free to do so if you wish.
